History

Late 2002 the VMMR Committee were delighted to be advised that they had managed to attract a Regional Solutions Federal Grant of $55,000 towards the installation of a Synthetic Outdoor Bowling Green, with an additional $30,000 being raised by the Golden Beach Bowls Club and the community.

The Past President of the Golden Beach Bowls Club, Mr Tom Kean, was a tireless worker at the VMMR over some eight years and was very anxious to see the synthetic bowling green installed, however, it is with deep sadness we record that he passed away on the 15th May 2003. The Committee of the VMMR and the Committee and Members of the Bowls Club are committed to seeing Tom’s dream a reality with this project to be effected late 2003. His presence and help will be deeply missed.

The outdoor bowls facility will be a tremendous asset to the VMMR Reserve and will attract even more visitors and permanent residents to this section of the Ninety Mile Beach.

During 2003 with funds allocated by the Shire, repainting of the Clubrooms and the toilet block ramps is taking place. Funds received from the proceeds of the 2003 Fishing Competition were also put towards this maintenance item as was an amount towards the installation of a much needed new pump.

All work done at the VMMR Reserve has been performed by a group of retirees on a purely voluntary basis – they have worked tirelessly over the past eight years, giving of their time, talents and resources to see this project grow from 80 acres of scrub to a highly regarded community leisure complex.
